Career Guidance

Thinking about work from the person who does it.

Sessions for when work has stopped settling and you do not yet know what comes next. Online or in person in Cascais, Portugal.

Sessions are held in Portuguese

These sessions are held in Portuguese. If you would like to talk about working together in another language, write to me and we will see.

When it makes sense

Possible signs.

  • 01 When work stopped settling and you are not sure when that began.
  • 02 When you have a decision in front of you and every option seems to weigh the same.
  • 03 When you are good at something you no longer enjoy, and that complicates everything.
  • 04 When you want to change but do not know whether it is the work, or you, or the moment.

There are no tests here, and no lists of compatible professions. We look first at the person doing the deciding, and only then at the options in front of them.

Who this is for

  • Someone with a decision ahead who wants to look at the person deciding, before looking at the options.
  • Someone who wants to think about work out loud, with another person on the other side.
  • Someone who would rather have a conversation than take a test.

When it is better to wait, or to look elsewhere

  • If work is already harming your health, that gets treated first, and it gets treated by a doctor or a psychologist.
  • If you are burnt out right now, this is no time to decide anything. We can still talk, and it can wait with no trouble at all.
  • If you came out of a difficult dismissal recently, it is better to wait a few months. You think better once the shock has settled.
  • If what you are looking for is aptitude testing, help with your CV or interview practice, that is not done here.

This is not a psychology appointment or a psychological assessment. No tests are applied, no diagnoses are made, and it does not replace clinical care. It is a working conversation about your work. If, as we talk, it becomes clear that what you need right now is clinical care, I will say so plainly and, if you want, point you to someone.

If you are in crisis or at risk, do not wait for me: in Portugal, call SNS 24, 808 24 24 24, or 112.

If you are unsure, write to me first. I would rather you waited than booked at the wrong moment. Write to marta@serpaciente.pt.
